Leigh Gregory

Leigh was employed as a (DFAT) Australian Civilian Corp Specialist deployed with the National Disaster Management Directorate in Dili, Timor Leste from 2013 – 2015 and subsequently provided advisory services to the Timor Leste Government and a range of other agencies. During 2019, Leigh advised the Samoan NDMO on revision of its standard operating procedures and humanitarian response plans. From April to July 2020 Leigh supported the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Fiji in a humanitarian coordination role as the Covid-19 Coordinator for Tonga. More recently Leigh has provided support as an Advisor in Resource Mobilization and Donor Relations and carried out an evaluation of the ASEAN ERAT training program for the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (the AHA Centre) and undertaken a deployment to the NDMO of Vanuatu where he advised on humanitarian coordination and incorporation of incident management systems into staff training. Prior to this as the Darwin Regional Manager for Australian Red Cross he managed teams in the areas of Mental Health, Family Programs, Migration Support, Food Security and Emergency Services in remote Aboriginal Communities and urban locations. Leigh has worked in Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu and both urban and remote Aboriginal communities in Australia. He is a fluent speaker of Bahasa Indonesia and a NAATI accredited translator in the language. Leigh holds post graduate qualifications in Disaster and Emergency Management, Asian Studies, Development and Education and has undertaken a wide range of training in International Aid and Humanitarian Action.
